da anatomia cr\u00e2nio facial e dentomamaxilar \u00e9 imprescind\u00edvel na elabora\u00e7\u00e3o de um diagn\u00f3stico correto. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; O seio maxilar \u00e9 uma estrutura anat\u00f4mica localizada no ter\u00e7o m\u00e9dio da face, sendo de extrema import\u00e2ncia por estar localizadas muito pr\u00f3ximas \u00e0s estruturas dent\u00e1rias posteriores, devendo fazer parte do conhecimento dos cirurgi\u00f5es dentistas nas diversas especialidades.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Funcionalmente, os seios maxilares, tal como os outros seios paranasais, servem como uma esp\u00e9cie de filtro do ar inspirado: os seios aquecem, umidificam e captam impurezas do ar, com a fun\u00e7\u00e3o de proteger a traqueia e os pulm\u00f5es. Estes seios s\u00e3o revestidos por uma membrana ciliada e produtora de muco. Todos os seios paranasais t\u00eam comunica\u00e7\u00e3o com a cavidade nasal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; O muco, que tem a fun\u00e7\u00e3o de aquecer e umidificar o ar inspirado, \u00e9 constantemente produzido e precisa ser eliminado. Quando h\u00e1 um bloqueio dos \u00f3stios maxilares por um processo inflamat\u00f3rio (rinite, por exemplo), as vias de drenagem de secre\u00e7\u00e3o, obstru\u00eddas, comprometem a ventila\u00e7\u00e3o do seio maxilar e instala-se um quadro de reten\u00e7\u00e3o de muco constante e crescente, e que leva \u00e0 sinusite.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Anatomicamente, o seio maxilar \u00e9 o que possui o maior volume dentre as demais cavidades paranasais e na maioria das vezes, costumam ser sim\u00e9tricos. As regi\u00f5es lim\u00edtrofes do seio maxilar s\u00e3o suas seis paredes: anterior, medial, lateral, posterior, superior e inferior (sendo que as duas \u00faltimas estruturas tamb\u00e9m s\u00e3o conhecidas como teto e assoalho, respectivamente) (Imagem 2).
